The Appeal of Tim Drake
To me Tim Drake's main theme comes in showcasing the importance of OBSERVATION.
His origin relies on him noticing that Batman has been struggling since Jason Todd died, and because he believes that Batman needs a Robin, he devotes himself to becoming Robin and fulfilling that need.
He is also known as a skilled detective -- which plays into his origin as well, as he was able to deduce Batman's identity.
Both of these aspects of his origin indicate his strength in observation, both empathetically and logically, interpersonally and during detective work.
Being observant is key to maintaining good relationships because it means you are paying attention to the other person. You are aware of their needs, their thoughts, and their feelings, meaning you can be a better component of the relationship. You have probably been on the opposite end of a good observer in a relationship, and it feels like the other person understands you well and you get along incredibly smoothly, and that's because they are noticing things about you without you having to explain them directly. Feeling "seen" feels great.
Being observant is key to solving problems in life that are more logic-based, which is epitomized in Robin's detective work: essentially a problem with a set of clues that must be (1) acknowledged and (2) pieced together to solve the mystery. Being observant helps with the acknowledgement part. Note that a master detective is a master at "detection", and note the similarity between "detection" and "observation". This applies to mundane real-world problem-solving as well, like projects at work or in school or in your personal life, since you have to first observe all the facets of the problem, and observe your own strengths and weaknesses. For example, if you're trying to start a new habit of jogging at 6:00am every day, you first have to be observant enough to notice that you sleep too late at the moment and have to sleep earlier, that if you sleep earlier it means you must cut out your nighttime social media habits, that you use social media because it keeps you connected to friends so you should probably find another time in the day to check it, etc.
I see Tim Drake as a champion of the powers of observation, and I think he serves as a good reminder to pay attention to the people in your life and what they are feeling or undergoing on a daily basis, and to maintain observance when trying to solve problems.
